THE WINES

Joining my CSA means trusting me and my passions. Right now I am not interested in making grape wines- I feel like there are enough people in the world doing that, - instead I'm trying to develop some things that are unique, ancient in heritage and even magical.

I also believe it is a more noble and difficult challenge to make something truly drinkable, then it is just to make something challenging to drink, and I take that pretty seriously. Despite my sometimes esoteric interests I like to think I have a good bead on the contemporary palate and that’s why my wines are popular. In addition you can count on my wines being generally organic, always made with local NY state ingredients- with an absolute minimal processing and brought to you natural, alive and un-sulfited.

Some things we have made in the past involved elderberry infused apple wines, herbal and hoppped dry meads, sparkling cherry and elderbery mead, a spontaneous fermentation apple wine from select wine sap apples, dandelion wines and two varietiey of rare tea infused apple meads. This fall I am looking forward to exploring liliac wine.

Generally all the labels are designed and printed by myself or one of my artist friends and the bottles themselves are small works of art in my opinion, worthy of holding onto after they are empty.

LOGISTICS
The CSA is limited to folks in the NY metro area who can make it to one of the drop off's in Williamsburg, Manhattan (Lower) or Park Slope area. These wines aren't stabilized with chemicals so I avoid shipping them around. In some cases I can arrange for a delivery but there is an additional fee.

HELPING OUT
There are lots of times and places where I could use a hand, either bottling or labeling or even picking flowers. Its sort of a messy last minute buisness right now when it comes to bringing people into the process, but Im figuring that out more and more and I think folks who want to participate will find opportunities to do so. We have run bottling workshops and field trips to local distillers in the past and are always looking for new ideas of ways to do things together.

PRICE
Because I can't always predict when things will be ready, I’m reluctant to charge for the entire year up front- Instead I ask people to pay for the case at the time of pickup, with the handshake understanding that you are in it for the year. New members will be asked for a substantial (80$) deposit.

Otherwise the cost is 250$, payable on delivery. That gets you a mixed case of 12x 750ml bottles or an equivalent. It also gives you the right to buy additional cases, later in the year if they are available at the same price-
